Santana: Same

On August 30, 1969, “Columbia” label released the self-titled, debut Santana album. It was recorded in January and May 1969, at “Pacific Recording” in San Mateo, and was produced by Carlos Santana, Gregg Rolie, David Brown, Michael Shrieve, Michael Carabello, José “Chepito” Areas, Brent Dangerfield and David Rubinson. In 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 150 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of all Time”.

In April 1981, “Columbia” label released “Zebop!”, the eleventh Santana studio album. It was recorded 1980-1981, and was produced by Carlos Santana and Bill Graham. The album was certified Platinum in the U.S. by “RIIA”.

Santana: Santana IV

On April 15, 2015, “RCA” label released “Santana IV”, the twenty-third studio Santana album. It was recorded 2014-2015, and was produced by Carlos Santana. The title refers to the fact that this is the fourth album by most of the personnel who formed the late 1960s version of the group that performed at “Woodstock Festival”.

James Marshall

On March 24, 2010, James Joseph Marshall died aged 74. He was  photographer, best known for his photographs of rock musicians, including The Beatles (final paid live concert in San Francisco’s Candlestick Park), Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, The Who, Guns N’ Roses and Santana. He was also the chief photographer at Woodstock.

James Cotton

On March 16, 2017, James Henry Cotton died aged 81. He was musician (harmonica), singer and songwriter, had a successful solo career, recording albums under his own name, and recording and performing with number of great blues and rock musicians including Gregg Allman, William “Billy Boy” Arnold, Elvin Bishop, Mike Bloomfield, Joe Bonamassa, Paul Butterfield, Grateful Dead, Pat Hare, Howlin’ Wolf, Janis Joplin, B.B. In February 1987, “Columbia” label released “Freedom”, the fourteenth Santana studio album. It was recorded in 1986, and was produced by Jeffrey Cohen, Carlos Santana, Chester Thompson and Sterling Crew.

On June 15, 1999, “Arista” label released “Supernatural”, the seventeenth Santana album. It was recorded 1999, at “Record Plant” in Sausalito, California, and was produced by Clive Davis, Jerry ‘Wonder’ Duplessis, The Dust Brothers, Alex González, Charles Goodan, Lauryn Hill, Art Hodge, Wyclef Jean, Fher Olvera, K.C. Porter, Dante Ross, Matt Serletic and Stephen Harris. The album was huge commercial success, selling more than thirty million copies worldwide, and becoming Santana’s best sold album ever. It was certified 15 x Platinum in the US by the”RIIA’. “Supernatural”  won nine “Grammy Awards”, including “Album of the Year”, and three “Latin Grammy Awards” including “Record of the Year”.
