Born in the USA

On June 4, 1984, “Columbia” label released “Born in the U.S.A.”, the seventh Bruce Springsteen studio album. It was recorded January 1982 – March 1984, at “The Power Station” and “The Hit Factory” in New York City, and was produced by Jon Landau, Chuck Plotkin, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt. In 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 85 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of all Time”. In 2013, “NME” magazine ranked it at number 428 on its list album of the “Greatest Albums of all Time”.

It was recorded 1983-1984, and was produced by Terry Britten, John Carter, Leon “Ndugu” Chancler, Wilton Felder, Rupert Hine, Joe Sample, Greg Walsh and Martyn Ware. The album became worldwide commercial success, being certified 7 x Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”, 5 x Platinum in Germany by “BVMI”, 3 x Platinum in UK by the “BPI”, 5 x Platinum in US by the “RIIA”, Platinum in Spain by PROMUSICAE, and Platinum in New Zealand by “RMNZ”.

On May 25, 1984, Eric J. Gale died aged 55. On May 24, 1974, “RCA” label released “Diamond Dogs”, the eighth David Bowie studio album. It was recorded January 1974 – February 1974, at “Island Studios” and “Olympic Studios” in London, “Ludolph Studios”, in Nederhorst den Berg, and was produced by David Bowie. Thematically, the album is mixture of the George Orwell’s novel “1984” and Bowie’s vision of a post-apocalyptic world.

It was recorded November 1984 – March 1985, at “AIR Studios” in Montserrat, and was produced by Neil Dorfsman and Mark Knopfler. In 1986 “Brothers in Arms” won two “Grammy Awards”, and also won “Best British Album” at the 1987 “Brit Awards”. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Brothers in Arms” at number 351 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of all Time”. The album was ranked at number 51 on “Q” magazine list of the “100 Greatest British Albums Ever”. The album was certified 9 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”. It became the seventh best-selling album in UK chart history, and with total sale of more than thirty million copies worldwide, “Brothers in Arms” is one of the world’s best-selling albums ever.
