On August 15, 1979, label “Swan Song” released “In Through the Out Door”, the eighth Led Zeppelin studio album .  It was recorded November – December 1978 at ABBA’s “Polar Studios” in Stockholm, and was produced by Jimmy Page.This was band’s final album with completely new material and the last one released before the death of the drummer John Bonham in 1980.  “In Through the Out Door” was certified 2 x Platinum in Australia by the “ARIA”; Platinum in UK by the “BPI” and 6 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”.

Lowell George

On June 29, 1979, Lowell Thomas George, died aged 34. He was musician (guitar, sitar, saxophone, harmonica), songwriter, and producer, member of Frank Zappa’s “Mothers of Invention”, but best known as a leader, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of “Little Feat”. George also worked as a producer, he produced the Grateful Dead’s 1978 album “Shakedown Street”, the “Little Feat’s” albums and Valerie Carter’s 1977 album “Just a stone’s throw away”. In 1979 George released his only solo album  “Thanks, I’ll eat it here”.

Nino Rota

On April 10, 1979, Giovanni “Nino” Rota died aged 68. He was musician (piano), composer, conductor and academic, best known for his film scores. He has wrote more than 150 music scores and has composed music for the films of some of the world best known movie directors, among the others for Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli and Francis Ford Coppola.  In 1974 he won the “Academy Award for Best Original Score” for Francis Ford Coppola movie “The Godfather Part II”. Rota is also known for his music for theatre productions by Luchino Visconti, Eduardo De Filippo and Franco Zeffirelli.
