On August 18, 1978, “Polydor” label released “Who Are You”, the eight Who album.  It was recorded October 1977 – April 1978, at “Ramport Studios”, “Battersea”, ”Olympic Studios”; “RAK Studios”, St John’s Wood” and Pete Townshend’s own studio in Goring-on-Thames and was produced by Jon Astley, Glyn Johns , Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Pete Townshend and Keit Moon. This was band’s last album with Keith Moon,  he died twenty days after the release of album.

On August 17, 1987, “Island” label released “Frank’s Wild Years”, the tenth Tom Waits album. It was recorded in 1987, at “Universal Recording Studios” in Chicago; “The Sound Factory” and “Sunset Sound” in Hollywood, and was produced by Tom Waits. The album was subtitled “Un Operachi Romantico in Тwo Аcts” and contains compositions written for a play by the same name. “Frank’s Wild Years”, is name of a song from Waits’ 1983 album “Swordfishtrombones”.

On August 17, 1959, “Columbia” label released “Kind of Blue” album by Miles Davis. It was recorded March 2 and April 22, 1959, at  “Columbia’s 30th Street Studio” in New York City, and was produced by Teo Macero and Irving Townsend. The album 46 minutes of innovations, improvisation and musical excellence has changed not only the face of jazz but the course of modern music. “Kind of Blue” is not only the best selling jazz album of all times (it was certified quadruple platinum in sales by the “Recording Industry Association of America”) and Davis personal masterpiece but is also regarded as one of the most influential albums in the history of modern music ever. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Kind of Blue” at number 12 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of all Time”.

On August 16, 1977, Elvis Aaron Presley, died aged 42. He was singer and actor, he had one of the most successful careers in the popular music ever and is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. He played key role in the popularization of Rock and Roll in America and worldwide and became the first global music icon and superstar. Presley is one of the best sold artists in the music history with an army of millions of devoted fans worldwide.

Robert Johnson

On August 16, 1938, Robert Leroy Johnson, died aged 27. He was musician (guitar), singer and songwriter. performed mostly in the streets, in juke joints, and at Saturday night dances, so his career and life were very poorly documented. Only after the reissue of his recordings on the 1961 album “King of the Delta blues singers”, wider audience got a chance to know his exceptional songwriting, singing and guitar playing talent. Today he is recognized as the “Master of the blues”, with huge number of followers and admirers of his work among the world famous musicians. Eric Clapton has called Johnson “The most important blues singer that ever lived”. Johnson was ranked fifth position in the “Rolling Stone” magazine list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.

On August 16, 2002,  “Vaulternative Records” (label from the “Zappa Family Trust”), released “FZ:OZ”, a live album by Frank Zappa. The two CD’s set contains almost all material from the concert from January 20, 1976, held at the “Hordern Pavilion” in Sydney. The album was produced by Dweezil Zappa.

It was recorded November 1993 – April 1994,  at “The Complex Studios” in Los Angeles, and was produced by Neil Young and David Briggs. Young created the title track after the death of Kurt Cobain, who quoted him in his suicide note.
