James Oldaker

On July 16, 2020, James Oldaker died aged 68. He was musician (drums, percussions), member of Rogues Five, Bob Seger Band, Leon Russell Band, Frehley’s Comet, and The Tractors, but was best known as the drummer for Eric Clapton. Oldaker recorded with musicians and bands such as The Bellamy Brothers, Asleep at the Wheel, Peter Frampton, The Gap Band, Marcy Levy, Stephen Stills, Leon Russell, Ace Frehley, Freddie King, and The Bee Gees. In August 2005, Oldaker released “Mad Dogs & Okies”, a collection celebrating the music and musicians of Oklahoma, with guest musicians Eric Clapton, Vince Gill, J. J. Cale, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Dunn, and Bonnie Bramlett.

The Dream Syndicate: Out of the Grey

On May 23, 1986, “Big Time Records” label released “Out of the Grey”, the third Dream Syndicate (The) studio album. It was recorded 1985 – 1986, and was produced by Paul B. Cutler.

Bert Weedon

On April 20, 2012, Herbert Maurice William ‘Bert’ Weedon died aged 91. He was musician (guitar), whose style of playing was popular and influential during the 50s and 60s. Weedon was the first British guitarist to have a hit record in the “UK Singles Chart”, in 1959. His “Play in a Day” guitar guide influenced some of the biggest names in rock and roll such as Eric Clapton, Brian May, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Dave Davies, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi and Jimmy Page. For his “services to music”, in 2001, Weedon was awarded an OBE.

Ginger Baker

On October 6, 2019, Peter Edward “Ginger” Baker died aged 80. He was musician (drums, percussion) and song writer, credited as pioneer of drumming in rock, jazz fusion and world music, with reputation of “rock’s first superstar drummer”. Baker was member of the bands Blues Incorporated and Graham Bond Organisation, but he achieved worldwide success as co-founder and drummer of super group Cream, together with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce. After Cream he was member of Blind Faith and founded Ginger Baker’s Air Force and Ginger Baker’s Energy. He has worked with big number of musicians and music acts such as Gary Moore, Masters of Reality, Public Image Ltd, Hawkwind, Atomic Rooster, Bill Laswell, Charlie Haden and Bill Frisell. As leader Baker released 18 albums.

Dr. John

On June 6, 2019, Malcolm John Rebennack aka Dr. John, died aged 77. He was singer – songwriter and musician (piano, keyboards and guitar), regarded as one of the greatest New Orleans music icons. He had successful solo career and performed and recorded with many famous musicians and bands, including Art Blakey, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, Van Morrison, Dan Auerbach, Eric Clapton, Bob Seger, Joe Walsh, Canned Heat, The Rolling Stones, Mike Bloomfield, Spiritualized, David Newman, Ray Anderson, Levon Helm, John Hammond, Gregg Allman, Papa John Creach, Bennie Wallace, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Harry Connick Jr., Hank Crawford, Jimmy Smith, Jools Holland, Steve Tyrell, B. B. King and Marcus Miller. Dr. John won six “Grammy Awards”, and was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in 2011. In May 2013, he received honorary doctorate of fine arts from “Tulane University.

Eric Clapton: I Still Do

On May 20, 2016, “Bushbranch Records/Surfdog Records” label released “I Still Do”, the 22nd Eric Clapton album. It was recorded 2015 – 2016, at “British Grove Studios”, and was produced by Glyn Johns.

James Burns

On December 26, 2017, James Burns died aged 65. He was television producer and writer, best known as co-creator  (with Robert Small) of “MTV Unplugged”. The show originally aired on “MTV” from 1989 to 1999, featured well-known musicians performing acoustic versions of their songs, among the others Elton John,  Aerosmith, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nirvana, Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, LL Cool J, and 10,000 Maniacs.

On November 20, 1989,”Virgin” label released “…But Seriously”, the fourth Phil Collins studio album. It was recorded April – October 1989, at “The Farm” in Chiddingfold, Surrey, UK, “A&M Studios” in Los Angeles, and was produced by Phil Collins and Hugh Padgham. Otis Rush

On September 29, 2018, Otis Rush died aged 84. He was musician (guitar), singer, and songwriter, together with Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, regarded as creator of the West Side Chicago blues style. In 1984, Rush was elected to the “Blues Hall of Fame”; in 2015, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked him at number 53 on its list of “100 Greatest Guitarists”; in 2018, “Jazz Foundation of America” honored Rush with a “Lifetime Achievement Award”. Rush influenced many musicians, including Peter Green, Michael Bloomfield and Eric Clapton.
