On November 12, 2024 Roy Owen Haynes died aged 99. He was musician (drums), regarded as one of best and most influential drummers in the history of jazz music. Kriss Kristofferson
On September 28, 2024, Kristoffer Kristofferson died aged 88 years. He was musician (guitar, harmonica), singer, composer and actor. His best known songs are “Me and Bobby McGee”, “For the Good Times”, “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down”, and “Help Me Make It Through the Night”. Kristofferson has won three “Grammy Awards” and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2014. As leader he released twenty-one albums.

Angelo Daniel Badalamenti
On December 11, 2022, Angelo Daniel Badalamenti died aged 85. He was composer and arranger, recorded songs with David Bowie, Nina Simone, Tim Booth, Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, Julee Cruise, Marianne Faithfull, Siouxsie Sioux and Dolores O’Riordan, but was best known for composing film music. He collaborated with director David Lynch, notably “Blue Velvet”, the “Twin Peaks” saga, “The Straight Story” and “Mulholland Drive”. In 1990, Badalamenti received “Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance” for his “Twin Peaks Theme”. In 2008, Badalamenti received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “World Soundtrack Awards’s Academy”, and in 2011, the “Henry Mancini Award” from the “American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers”.
Gershon Kingsley
On December 10, 2019, Götz Gustav Ksinski aka Gershon Kingsley died aged 97. He was composer, a pioneer of the Moog synthesizer, and electronic music. He composed music for film and TV shows, classical chamber works, conducted and arranged the music for Broadway musicals (“The Entertainer”, “La Plume de Ma Tante”, “Vintage ’60”, “Josephine Baker”, “Cafe Crown”, “I’m Solomon”). He was part of the electronic duo Perrey and Kingsley, founded the “First Moog Quartet”, but got world recognition and fame with his 1969 track “Popcorn”. This track was covered by Hot Butter, Aphex Twin, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Jean Michelle Jarre, Marsheaux, Muse, Crazy Frog and The Muppets. Kingsley received “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Bob Moog Foundation”.
Little Richard
On May 9, 2020, Richard Wayne Penniman aka Little Richard died aged 87. He was singer, songwriter and musician (piano), one of the most important and influential persons in the popular music. His charismatic showmanship and dynamic music, characterized by frenetic piano playing, pounding back beat and raspy shouted vocals, laid the foundation for rock and roll, but also had important role in formation of other music genres such as soul and funk. For his work Little Richard received numerous awards and was honored by many institutions. In 1986, he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”; in 1993 he received “Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award”, he was inducted into the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”, received “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Recording Academy”; “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Rhythm and Blues Foundation”, and received a “Rhapsody & Rhythm Award” from the “National Museum of African American Music”. In 2012, his song “Tutti Frutti” was included in the “National Recording Registry” of the “Library of Congress”, stated that his “unique vocalizing over the irresistible beat announced a new era in music”. Three of his songs “Tutti Frutti,” “Lucille” and “Long Tall Sally” are inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame”.
Terry Jones
On January 21, 2020, Terence Graham Parry Jones aka Terry Jones died aged 77. He was actor, writer, comedian, screenwriter, film director and historian, best known as founding member of the Monty Python team. He co-created and co-wrote with Michael Palin the series “Ripping Yarns”, co – directed with Terry Gilliam the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, and directed the Python movies “Life of Brian” and “The Meaning of Life”. In 2016, at the “BAFTA Cymru Awards”, Terry Jones received a “Lifetime Achievement award” for his outstanding contribution to television and film.
Robert Hunter
On September 23, 2019, Robert C. Hunter died aged 78. He was lyricist, singer-songwriter, musician (guitar, mandolin), translator and poet. He has cooperated with various artists, such as Bob Dylan, Little Feat, Jim Lauderdale, Elvis Costello, Cesar Rosas, Bruce Hornsby and New Riders of the Purple Sage , but was best known by his work with Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead. In 2013, Hunter received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Americana Music Association”. Hunter has released 14 solo albums.
Otis Rush
On September 29, 2018, Otis Rush died aged 84. He was musician (guitar), singer, and songwriter, together with Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, regarded as creator of the West Side Chicago blues style. In 1984, Rush was elected to the “Blues Hall of Fame”; in 2015, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked him at number 53 on its list of “100 Greatest Guitarists”; in 2018, “Jazz Foundation of America” honored Rush with a “Lifetime Achievement Award”. Rush influenced many musicians, including Peter Green, Michael Bloomfield and Eric Clapton.
James Brown
On December 25, 2006, James Joseph Brown died aged 73. He was singer, songwriter, producer and bandleader, regarded as the creator of funk music, and one of the most important artists in the history of the modern music. Named the “Godfather of Soul” and the “Hardest Working Man in the Show Business”, for all the achievements in his six decades long career, Brown received many honors including” inductions into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”; “Songwriters Hall of Fame”; “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 34th annual “Grammy Awards”; “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 4th annual “Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Awards”; a star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame”; inductee to the “New York Songwriters Hall of Fame”; honored as the first “BMI Urban Icon” at the “BMI Urban Awards”, “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the “BET Awards”, and induction into the “UK Music Hall of Fame”.Magazine “Rolling Stone” ranked him at number seven on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”; in Joel Whitburn’s analysis of the “Billboard R&B” charts from 1942 to 2010, Brown was ranked as number one in “The Top 500 Artists”.list, magazine “Rolling Stone” cited him as the most sampled artist of all time, and In an article for the same magazine, critic Robert Christgau cited Brown as “The Greatest Musician of the Rock Era”. Brown is also one of the best sold artist of all times.
