On September 23, 2019, Robert C. Hunter died aged 78. He was lyricist, singer-songwriter, musician (guitar, mandolin), translator and poet. He has cooperated with various artists, such as Bob Dylan, Little Feat, Jim Lauderdale, Elvis Costello, Cesar Rosas, Bruce Hornsby and New Riders of the Purple Sage , but was best known by his work with Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead. In 2013, Hunter received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Americana Music Association”. Hunter has released 14 solo albums.

New Riders of the Purple Sage: Same
In August 1971, “Columbia” label released the debut, self-titled New Riders of the Purple Sage album. It is the only band’s studio album to feature co-founder Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead.It was recorded December 1970 – January 1971, at “Wally Heider Recording” in San Francisco, and was produced by John Dawson , David Nelson, Dave Torbert, Jerry Garcia and Spencer Dryden.

James Marshall
On March 24, 2010, James Joseph Marshall died aged 74. He was photographer, best known for his photographs of rock musicians, including The Beatles (final paid live concert in San Francisco’s Candlestick Park), Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, The Who, Guns N’ Roses and Santana. He was also the chief photographer at Woodstock.
James Cotton
On March 16, 2017, James Henry Cotton died aged 81. He was musician (harmonica), singer and songwriter, had a successful solo career, recording albums under his own name, and recording and performing with number of great blues and rock musicians including Gregg Allman, William “Billy Boy” Arnold, Elvin Bishop, Mike Bloomfield, Joe Bonamassa, Paul Butterfield, Grateful Dead, Pat Hare, Howlin’ Wolf, Janis Joplin, B.B. On November 15, 1978, “Arista” label released “Shakedown Street”, the tenth Grateful Dead studio album. It was recorded July 31 -August 18, 1978, at “Club Le Front”, and “Meta Tantay” in Carlin, Nevada, and was produced by Lowell George. The album cover art was by underground comics artist Gilbert Shelton.
