On October 17, 1980, “Columbia” label released “The River”, the fifth Bruce Springsteen studio album. It was recorded March 1979  – August 1980, at the “Power Station” in New York City, and was produced by Jon Landau, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt.  “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “The River” at number 253 on its list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On October 9, 1987, “Columbia” label released “Tunnel of Love”, the eighth Bruce Springsteen studio album.  It was recorded January – July 1987, and was produced by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau and Chuck Plotkin. in 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked it at number 467 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On October 3, 1967, Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Guthrie died aged 55. He was musician (guitar), singer-songwriter, whose musical legacy includes hundreds of political, traditional, children’s songs, along with ballads and improvised works. He performed with the slogan “This machine kills fascists” displayed on his guitar. His song “This Land Is Your Land” has become one of the most popular music pieces in the history of the American popular music, and is regularly sung in American schools Big number of famous musicians and authors have acknowledged Guthrie as their major influence, including:Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Harry Chapin, John Mellencamp, Pete Seeger,  Joe Strummer, Billy Bragg, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Jeff Tweedy, and Tom Paxton.

On September 30, 1982, “Columbia” label released “Nebraska” the sixth Bruce Springsteen studio album. The first Springsteen’s acoustic album was recorded in January, 1982 at his “Colts Neck” New Jersey bedroom, and was produced by Bruce  Springsteen.

On January 28, 1985, the song “We Are the World” was recorded in the “A&M” studios in LA. The USA response to the UK Band Aid’s “Do they know it’s Christmas” was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. The single was released on March 7, 1985 on “Columbia” label and sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
