On September 6, 1990, Tom Fogerty died aged 49. He was musician (vocals, guitar), singer and songwriter, worked with the Blue Velvets, The Golliwogs, but best known as founding member, vocalist and guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
U2: Three
On September 01, 1979, U2 released their first record “Three” also known as “U2-3”. The three-song EP recorded was produced by Bono Vox, The Edge, Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton and Chas de Whalley, and was available only in Ireland when released. Only 1000 copies were pressed in both 7” and 12” format.

Smells Like Teen Spirit
On August 17, 1991, Nirvana shot the video clip for the song “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The shooting that included Nirvana fans as audience took place at GMT Studios in Culver City, California. The cost of the video production was less than $50,000 and the video won Nirvana the Best New Artist and Best Alternative Group awards at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. In year 2000, the Guinness World Records named “Smells like teen spirit” the “Most Played Video” on MTV Europe.
Woodstock Festival
On August 15, 1969, Woodstock Festival started on Max Yasgur’s 600 acre farm in Bethel outside New York. The three day festival was attended by more then 400,000 people. Some of the festival performers were Jimi Hendrix, Richie Havens, Joe Cocker, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Santana, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band, Canned Heat, Joan Baez, Melanie, Ten Years After, Sly and the Family Stone, Johnny Winter, Jefferson Airplane, Ravi Shankar, Country Joe and the Fish, Blood Sweat and Tears, Arlo Guthrie and Joe Cocker.
Roy Buchanan
On August 14, 1988, Roy Buchanan died aged 48. He was musician (guitar, bass) and songwriter, known as a the pioneer of “Telecaster” sound. Magazine “Guitar Player” praised him as one of the “50 Greatest tones of all time”. Jeff Beck dedicated the song “Cause we’ve ended as lovers” to Buchanan in 1975 on his “Blow by Blow” album.
Les Paul
On August 13, 2009, guitarist Les Paul died at the age of 94.Les Paul has developed one of the first solid-body electric guitars, which was released for commercial sale in 1952 and had serious impact to the birth of Rock’n’ Roll. Les Paul has also developed few other important recording innovations such as multi-track recording and overdubbing.

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham
On August 12, 1968, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham rehearsed for first time together at the studio in Gerrard Street in London’s West End. They played a version of “The Train Kept A-Rollin”, “Smokestack Lightning” and “I’m Confused” which later became “Dazed And Confused”. The first live dates they performed were by the name of “The Yardbirds”; it was the following month they changed the name to “Led Zeppelin”.
Isaac Hayes
On August 10, 2008, Isaac Lee Hayes, Jr. aka Isaac Hayes died aged 65. He was musician (piano, keyboards, trombone, saxophone), singer, songwriter, actor, and producer, one of the creative forces behind the music label “Stax Records”. The song “Soul man” (written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter and performed by Sam & Dave) has been recognized as one of the most influential songs of the past 50 years by the “Grammy Hall of Fame”, it was honored by “The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” by “Rolling Stone” magazine, and by the “RIAA” as one of the “Songs of the Century”. Hayes had success with his albums (Hot Buttered Soul, Black Moses, The Isaac Hayes Movement, Joy, Live at the Sahara Tahoe and Chocolate Chip) but he was best known for the soundtrack for the 1971 movie “Shaft” For the “Theme from Shaft”, in 1972, Hayes was awarded with the “Academy Award for Best Original Song”, becoming the third African-American, (after Sidney Poitier and Hattie McDaniel), to win an “Academy Award” in any competitive field covered by “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences”. In 2002, Hayes was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” and in 2003, he was honored as a “BMI Icon” for his enduring influence on generations of music makers. In 1992, as recognition of his humanitarian work there, Hayes was crowned honorary king of the Ada, Ghana region.
