In February 1966, “Etiquette” label released “Boom”, the second Sonics (The) studio album. It was recorded 1965 – 1966, at “Wiley-Griffith Studios” in Tacoma, Washington, and was produced by Kent Morrill and Buck Ormsby.

Don Everly

On August 21, 2021, Don Everly died aged 84. He was musician (guitar), singer and songwriter, member of the Everly Brothers (with his brother Phil). Regarded as pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll, they began recording music in 1956, and had the first hit “Bye Bye Love” in 1957. In the period from 1958 to 1960, Everly Brothers had number of hits including “Wake Up Little Susie”, “All I Have to Do Is Dream”, and “Problems”. In the 1960s their vocal harmonies influenced many musicians and bands including the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel. In 1986, Everly Brothers were the first group to be inaugurated in the “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame” (together with Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis).

On March 4, 1957, “Specialty” label released “Here’s Little Richard”, the debut Little Richard album. It was recorded September 1955 – October 1956. In 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 50 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”, and ranked the track “Tutti Frutti” at number 43 on its list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.

Sugarcane Harris

On November 30, 1999, Don Francis Bowman “Sugarcane” Harris died aged 61. He was musician (violin, guitar), a pioneer in amplification of the violin. He was member of the doo-wop band The Squires, the duo Don and Dewey, Pure Food and Drug Act, performed with Little Richard, recorded and performed with John Mayall & the Bluesbrakers, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, John Lee Hooker, Harvey Mandel, Tupelo Chain Sex, Johnny Otis, Billy Bang, Freddie Roulette, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. As leader Harris released nine albums.

On May 28, 2008, Jerald Kolbrak aka Jerry Cole died aged 68. He was musician (guitar), started the career in the bands The Champs (together with Glen Campbell), and Gee Cee’s. He has worked as session musician with many famous musicians and bands including The Byrds, Nancy Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Roger McGuinn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Aretha Franklin, The Righteous Brothers, Little Richard, Dean Martin, Merle Haggard, Ray Charles, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Lou Rawls, Johnny Rivers, Gregg Allman, Lee Hazlewood, Blood Sweat & Tears, Kenny Rogers, Neil Diamond, Steely Dan and Isaac Hayes.

On May 9, 2020, Richard Wayne Penniman aka Little Richard died aged  87. He was singer, songwriter and musician (piano), one of the most important and influential persons in the popular music. His charismatic showmanship and dynamic music, characterized by frenetic piano playing, pounding back beat and raspy shouted vocals, laid the foundation for rock and roll, but also had important role in formation of other music genres such as soul and funk. For his work Little Richard received numerous awards and was honored by many institutions. In 1986, he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”; in 1993 he received “Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award”, he was inducted into the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”, received “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Recording Academy”;  “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the “Rhythm and Blues Foundation”, and received a “Rhapsody & Rhythm Award” from the “National Museum of African American Music”. In 2012, his song “Tutti Frutti” was included in the “National Recording Registry” of the “Library of Congress”, stated that his “unique vocalizing over the irresistible beat announced a new era in music”. Three of his songs “Tutti Frutti,” “Lucille” and “Long Tall Sally” are inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame”.

In January 1964, “Parlaphone” label released “Stay with The Hollies”, the debut   Hollies album. It was recorded 15 May 1963 – 28 January 1964, at “EMI Studios” (later changed the name in Abbey Road Studios) in London, and was produced by Ron Richards.
