In December 1970, “Island” label released “Highway”, the fourth Free studio album. It was recorded September 1970, at “Island Studios” in London, and was produced by Paul Rodgers, Paul Kossoff, Andy Fraser and Simon Kirke.

On June 26, 1970, “Island” label released “Fire and Water”, the third Free studio album. It was recorded January – June 1970, at “Trident Studios” and “Island Studios” in London, and was produced by Paul Rodgers, Paul Kossoff, Andy Fraser, Simon Kirke, and John Kelly.

On March 14, 1969, “island” label released “Tons of Sobs”, the debut Free album. It was recorded October – December 1968, at “Morgan Studios” in London, and was produced by Guy Stevens.

Nick Drake Pink Moon

On February 25, 1972, “Island” label released “Pink Moon”, the third and final Nick Drake studio album.  It was recorded on 30 – 31 October 1971, at “Sound Techniques” in London, and was produced by John Wood. Released two years before Drake’s death in November 1974, “Pink Moon” was recorded without a backing band, featuring just Drake on vocals, acoustic guitar and a brief piano riff overdubbed onto the title track.

Prince: 1999

1999

On October 27, 1982, “Warner Bros” label released “1999”, the fifth Prince studio album.  It was recorded in 1982 at the “Kiowa Trail Home Studio” in Minnesota and “Sunset Sound Recorders” in Hollywood, and was produced by Prince. In 2008 the album was inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame”, and in 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “1999” on number 163 on it’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

Chris Wood

On July 12, 1983, Christopher Gordon Blandford ‘Chris’ Wood died aged 39. He was musician (saxophone, flute, keyboards), was best known as one of the founding members of the band “Traffic”. In his career he has worked and recorded with Ginger Baker’s Air Force, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Electric Ladyland, Free, Fat Mattress, Martha Velez,  Chicken Shack, Gordon Jackson, Locomotive, Shawn Phillips, Sky, Jim Capaldi,  Reebop Kwaku Baah, John Martyn,  Hanson, Free Creek,  Crawler, Third World and  Spencer Davis Group.

On April 7, 2013, Jeremy Andrew “Andy” Johns died aged 61. He was producer and engineer, worked with many musicians and bands, including: Blodwyn Pig, Humble Pie, Gary Wright, Free, Bobby Whitlock- Bobby Whitlock, West, Bruce and Laing, Jack Bruce, String Driven Thing, Television,  Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Cinderella, McAuley Schenker Group, Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Miller Band, Jethro Tull, The Deviants, Spooky Tooth, Ten Years After, Clouds, Blind Faith, Led Zeppelin,  Rolling Stones, Mott the Hoople, Sailor’s Delight- Sky, Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Joni Mitchell and Eric Clapton.

On March 19, 1975, Paul Francis Kossoff died aged 25. He was musician (guitar) and  songwriter, member of Black Cat Bones, Back Street Crawler and Kossoff /Kirke /Tetsu/ Rabbit, but was best known as member of Free. Kossoff is ranked 51st in “Rolling Stone” magazine list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.
