On April 6, 1992, “RCA Records” label released “Diva”, the debut Annie Lennox album. It was recorded 1991 – 1992, at “Mayfair” and “The Church” in London, and was produced by Stephen Lipson. In 1993 “Brit Awards”, “Diva” won the “British Album of the Year”. It was certified 2 x Platinum in the US by “RIAA”.

George Michael

On December 25, 2016, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou aka George Michael died aged 53. He was singer, songwriter, and record producer, member (with Andrew Ridgeley) of the duo Wham!, and had a very successful solo career. In his 30-years long career, Michael sold more than 80 million records worldwide, becoming one of the most successful commercial artists in the history of the modern music. He also received many awards including three “Brit Awards”; four “MTV Video Music Awards”; four “Ivor Novello Awards”; three “American Music Awards” and two “Grammy Awards”.

On September 29, 1997, “Hut” label released “Urban Hymns” the third Verve studio album. It was recorded October 1996 – May 1997, at “Olympic Studios” in London, and was produced by Richard Ashcroft, Nick Mccabe, Simon Tong , Peter Salisbury, Chris Potter and Youth. In 1998, “Urban Hymns”  won “Best British Album” at the “Brit Awards”. In 2001, “Q” magazine readers ranked the album at number 18 in the vote for the “Greatest Albums of All Time”, and in 2006, its editors voted it the 16th greatest album of all time. The Verve were awarded with the first ever “Q Classic Album” award for this album at the 2007 “Q Awards”. As of 2015, “Urban Hymns” was ranked the 18th best-selling album in UK chart history.  The critical and commercial success of the album won The Verve, two “Brit Awards” in 1998, including “Best British Group”. The album was ranked at number 51 on “Q” magazine list of the “100 Greatest British Albums Ever”. The album was certified 9 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”. It became the seventh best-selling album in UK chart history, and with total sale of more than thirty million copies worldwide, “Brothers in Arms” is one of the world’s best-selling albums ever.
