Then Jerico: The Big Area

On March 4, 1989, “London” label released “The Big Area”, the second Then Jerico album. It was recorded in 1988, at “The Manor”, “Olympic” “Abbey Road” “Townhouse” and “Air” in UK, “Sunset Sound”, “Westlake”, Summa”, “Sound Castle” and “The Hit Factory” in USA, and was produced by Rhett Davies and Peter Henderson.

Memorija: Ogan pod zvezdite

On January 25, 1990, “RTS” label released “Ogan pod zvezdite”, the debut Memorija album. It was recorded November – December 1989, at “M-2 Studio” at “MRTV”, in Skopje, Macedonia, and was produced by Valentino Skenderovski.

Phil Spector

On January 16, 2021, Harvey Phillip Spector died aged 81. He was musician (guitar, piano), vocalist, songwriter and music producer. He developed music production “Wall of Sound”, he described as “Wagnerian approach to rock and roll”. Spector started the music career as member of the band Teddy Bears, at age of 21 he co-founded “Philles Records” and became the youngest ever US label owner to that point. In the 60’s he wrote songs or produced music for The Ronettes, The Crystals, Ike & Tina Turner, produced Beatles album “Let It Be”, and few solo John Lennon and George Harrison recordings. He also worked with Leonard Cohen, Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans, Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector, The Wrecking Crew, The Righteous Brothers, and The Ramones. In 1973 Spector won “Grammy Award for Album of the Year” for co-producing Harrison’s “Concert for Bangladesh”, in 1989 he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”, and in 1997 he was inducted into the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at number 63 on their list of “The Greatest Artists in History”.In 2009, he was convicted for the 2003 murder of the actress Lana Clarkson and sentenced to 19 years to life in prison, where he died.

Joan Jett: The Hit List

On January 16, 1990, “Blackheart/CBS-Sony” labels released “The Hit List”, the seventh Joan Jett album. It was recorded 1986 – 1989, at “The Hit Factory” in New York City, and was produced by Kenny Laguna, Thom Panunzio, and Joan Jett.

Fats Waller

On December 15, 1943, Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller died aged 39. He was musician (piano, organ, violin), singer, and a comedic entertainer, a pioneer in creating the sound of the modern jazz piano. As composer he copyrighted over 400 songs, some of them with his collaborator Andy Razaf. Waller’s compositions “Honeysuckle Rose” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’” were inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame”, In 1970 he was inducted in the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”, in 1989 into the “Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame”, in 1993 he was posthumously awarded “Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award”, in 2005 he was inducted into the “Nesuhi Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame”, and in 2008 into the “Gennett Records Walk of Fame”.

Robert Pollard and Doug Gillard: Speak Kindly of Your Volunteer Fire Department

On December 14, 1989, “Fading Captain Series” and “Luna” labels released “Speak Kindly of Your Volunteer Fire Department”, an album by Robert Pollard and Doug Gillard. It was recorded in 1989, at “Cro-Magnon Studios”, in Dayton, Ohio.

Don DeVito

On November 25, 2011, Don DeVito died aged 72. He was musician (guitar), record producer and music business executive. He started playing guitar on tours with Al Kooper, and has his own band The Sabres. He worked with Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Aerosmith, but was best known as producer of some of the most important Bob Dylan’s albums, including “Blood on the Tracks”, “Desire”, “Street Legal”, “Hard rain”, and “Bob Dylan at Budokan”. In 1989 DeVito won “Grammy Award” for “Best Traditional Folk Recording”.

Galaxie 500: On Fire

On October 20, 1989, “Rough Trade” label released “On Fire”, the second Galaxie 500 studio album. It was recorded in 1989, and was produced by Mark Kramer
