The Smiths - The Queen-is-dead

On June 16, 1986, “Rough Trade” label released “The Queen Is Dead”, the third Smiths (The) studio album. It was recorded in 1985, and was produced by Morrissey and Johnny Marr. The album cover was designed by Morrissey and features Alain Delon photograph from the 1964 film “L’Insoumis”. “The Queen Is Dead” has received unanimous critical acclaim worldwide. “NME” magazine voted “The Queen Is Dead” the “Greatest Album of All Time’. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 216 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On June 16, 1972, “Island” label released the self-titled, debut Roxy Music album. It was recorded in March 1972, at “Command Studios” in London, and was produced by Peter Sinfield. In 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 62 in its list of the “Best Debut Albums of All Time”. In its special edition issue “Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock”, “Q” magazine ranked the album at number 31 on the list of “40 Cosmic Rock Albums”.

On June 15, 1979, “Factory” label released “Unknown Pleasures”, the debut Joy Division album. It was recorded in April 1979 and was produced by Martin Hannett. The inner sleeve features the photograph “Hand Through a Doorway”, by Ralph Gibson. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 24 in its list of the “50 Coolest Records”. “Spin” magazine ranked “Unknown Pleasures” at number 11 in its list of the “50 Most Essential Punk Records”, and in the lists of the “Fifteen Most Influential Albums”.”NME” magazine ranked the album at number 4 in its list of “The Greatest Albums of the ’70s”.

It was recorded in February 1970, at “Pacific High Recording”  in San Francisco, and was produced by Bob Matthews, Betty Cantor, and Grateful Dead. In 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 262 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On June 13, 1995, “Maverick Records” label released “Jagged Little Pill”, the third Alanis Morissette studio album. It was recorded 1994 – 1995, at “Westlake Recording Studios” and “Signet Sound” in Hollywood, and was produced by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard. “Jagged Little Pill” won five “Grammy Awards” including “Album of the Year”, making Morissette the youngest artists ever to receive this award. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 327 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. At the 1997 “Juno Awards”, the album song “Ironic” won “Single of the Year” award, and Morissette won “Songwriter of the Year” and the “International Achievement” award. “Jagged Little Pig” was huge commercial success selling more than thirty million copies worldwide.

It was recorded October 1984 – March 1985, at “Sigma Sound Studios” in New York City, and was produced by David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison and Tina Weymoth. “Little Creatures” was voted best album of the year in “The Village Voice Pazz & Jop” critic’s poll, and the cover album, created by artist Howard Finster, was voted album cover of the year by “Rolling Stone” magazine. The album was certified Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”.

In 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 85 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of all Time”. In 2013, “NME” magazine ranked it at number 428 on its list album of the “Greatest Albums of all Time”.
