On July 21, 1980, “Columbia” label released “Chicago XIV”, the twelfth Chicago studio. It was recorded March–May 1980, at “The Record Plant” in Los Angeles and “Criteria Studios” in Miami, and was produced by Tom Dowd. The album cover artwork is in the permanent collection of “The Museum of Modern Art” in New York City.

On July 18, 1980, “Korova” label released “Crocodiles”, the debut Echo & the Bunnymen album. It was recorded in 1980, at “Eden Studios” in London and “Rockfield Studios” in Monmouth, Wales, and was produced by Bill Drummond, David Balfe in Ian Broudie.  In 1993, “NME” ranked “Crocodiles” at number 28 on its list of the “50 Greatest Albums of the 1980s”; in 2006, “Uncut” magazine ranked the album at number 69 on its list of the “100 Greatest Debut Albums”

Joy Division - Closer

On July 18, 1980, “Factory” label released “Closer”, the second and final Joy Division studio album.It was released following the May 1980 suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. “Closer” was recorded in March 1980, at “Britannia Row Studios” in London, and was produced by Martin Hannett. “NME” ranked the album at number 72 on its list of the “100 Greatest British Albums Ever”; “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Closer” at number 157 on its list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”; in 2006, “Q” magazine ranked the album at number 8 on its list of the “Best Albums of the 1980s”, and “Slant” magazine ranked it at number 7 on its list of the “Best Albums of the 1980s”.

It was recorded in 1979 – 1980, at “Chipping Norton Recording Studios” in Oxfordshire, and was produced by Pete Wingfield.  “The Guardian” ranked the album at number 93 on its list of the “100 Best Albums Ever” and “Melody Maker” ranked it at number 42 on its list of the “All Time Top 100 Albums”.

On June 30, 1980, “EMI” label released “The Game”, the eighth Queen studio album. It was recorded June – July 1979, February – May 1980, at “Musicland Studios” in Munich, and was produced by Mack, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. The album was certified 4 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”, and became the best sold Queen album in the US.

It was recorded January – April 1980, at the “Tuff Gong Studios” in Kingston, Jamaica, and was produced by Chris Blackwell and Bob Marley. “Uprising” was the final studio album released during Marley’s lifetime.
