David Bowie: Scary Monsters

On September 12, 1980, “RCA” label released “Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)” the fourteenth David Bowie studio album. It was recorded February – April 1980, at “The Power Station” in London, and was produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti. In 2000, “Q” magazine ranked “Scary Monsters” at number 30 in its list of the “100 Greatest British Albums Ever”. In 2013, “NME” magazine ranked the album at number 381 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. The album was certified Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”, and in UK by the “BPI”.

On August 24, 1981, “Rolling Stones” label released “Tattoo You”, the sixteen Rolling Stones (The) album. It was recorded November–December 1972, January–March 1975, January–March 1978, January–October 1979, October 1980 – June 1981, and was produced by The Glimmer Twins. In 1989, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Tattoo You” at number 213 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. Peter Corriston, who was responsible for the album art direction and design, won a “Grammy Award” in the category of “Best Album Package”. The album was certified 4 x Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada” and 4 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”.

The album has been regarded as one of the definitive albums of early 80’s electronic funk, bringing the genre into mainstream attention.

The album’s all-black cover was designed as a “sign of mourning” for band’s original singer Bon Scott, who died in 1980. “Back in Black” was huge commercial success; it has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide, becoming the the second-highest-selling album in history. “Back in Black” was certified Platinum in Argentina by “CAPIF”; 12 x Platinum in Australia by “ARIIA”; Platinum in Austria by “IFPI”; Diamond in Canada by “Music Canada”; 2 x Platinum in France by “SNEP”; 2 x Platinum in Germany by “BVMI”; Platinum in Italy by “FIMI”; 2 x Platinum in Switzerland by “IFPI”; Platinum in UK by “BPI” and 22 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”.
