Luther Allison

On August 12, 1997, Luther Allison died aged 57. He was musician (guitar), worked with Howlin’ Wolf, Freddie King, Jimmy Dawkins, James Cotton, Magic Sam, and Otis Rush. In 1998, Allison was posthumously inducted into the “Blues Hall of Fame”. He released 27 albums (5 released posthumously).

Samuel Phillips

On July 30, 2003, Samuel Cornelius Phillips died aged 80. He was record producer, radio DJ, and founder of “Sun Records” and “Sun Studio”, in Memphis, Tennessee. In the 1940s, Phillips worked as a DJ for “Muscle Shoals”, Alabama radio station “WLAY”. In 1951, Phillips recorded what is considered to be the first rock and roll record, “Rocket 88” by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats. He discovered and produced recordings by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Howlin’ Wolf.

It was recorded in December 2015, at “British Grove Studios” and was produced by Don Was and The Glimmer Twins. It is the band’s first album to feature only cover songs. The album won “Album of the Year” at the “2017 Jazz FM Awards”. “Blue & Lonesome” was certified Platinum in Austria by “IFPI Austria”; Platinum in Belgium by “BEA”; 2 x Platinum in France by “SNEP”; Platinum in Poland by “ZPAV”, and Platinum in UK by “BPI”.
