Animal Collective: Tangerine Reef

On August 17, 2018, “Domino” label released “Tangerine Reef”, the second Animal Collective album. The album is accompanied by a film, which premiered on the band’s website upon release.

Lou Ottens

On March 6, 2021, Lodewijk Frederik Ottens aka Lou Ottens, died aged 94. He was inventor and engineer, known as the inventor of the audio cassette tape. Nearly 20 years after Philips introduced cassette tapes, Ottens helped the company to develop compact disc technology and, with Sony, to create audio format that would become the industry standard. In 2016, Ottens appeared in a film, “Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape”. The director, Zack Farmer, likened the creation of the cassette to “trying to paint a masterpiece on a postage stamp”.

Hal Blaine

On March 11, 2019, Harold Simon Belsky aka Hal Blaine died aged 90. He was musician (drums) regarded to be one of the most recorded studio drummers in the history of the modern music. He had more than 35,000 recording sessions in various music genres including big number of film and TV soundtracks. He worked with Shelley Fabares, The Crystals, Jan & Dean, The Beach Boys, Dean Martin, Lorne Greene, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, The Byrds, Sonny & Cher, Barry McGuire, Petula Clark, Nancy Sinatra, The Mamas & the Papas, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Rivers, The Supremes, The Association, Simon & Garfunkel, Tommy Roe, The 5th Dimension, Henry Mancini, The Carpenters, Neil Diamond, The Partridge Family, The Raiders, Barbra Streisand, John Denver, Captain & Tennille, Diana Ross, Sam Cooke, Van Dyke Parks, John Lennon, Lulu, Dennis Wilson, Paul Simon, Richard Harris, Glen Campbell, Emitt Rhodes, Art Garfunkel, Juice Newton, Michael Nesmith, Cher, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, J.J. Primus: Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble

On October 21, 2014, “ATO Records”, and “Prawn Song Records” labels released “Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble”, the eighth Primus studio album. The album is a re-imagining of the soundtrack of the 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”. It was recorded in 2014, and was produced by Les Claypool.

Leb i Sol: Zvučni zid

On May 14, 1986, “Jugoton” released “Zvučni zid”, the eight Leb i Sol studio album. The album featured music for theater, film and television, created and recorded in the previous ten years of the band existence. The tracks were recorded at “Pitu Guli Sound Studios” and “M2 Studio at RTS” in Skopje, Macedonia, “Lapidarij” in Zagreb, Croatia, and were produced by Vlatko Stefanovski and Bodan Arsovski.

Edwin Shirley

On April 16, 2013, Edwin Shirley died aged 64. He was a rock and roll tour organiser, film studio manager and impresario, co-founder of “Edwin Shirley Trucking” (EST) one of the largest music transport companies in Europe, owner of “Three Mills Island Studios” film and television recording studio, owner of “Edwin Shirley Staging” which built stages for a number of large concerts including “Live Aid” in 1985. Shirley worked with many prominent bands including The Rolling Stones and Queen.

Terry Jones

On January 21, 2020, Terence Graham Parry Jones aka Terry Jones died aged 77. He was actor, writer, comedian, screenwriter, film director and historian, best known as founding member of the  Monty Python team. He co-created and co-wrote with Michael Palin the series “Ripping Yarns”, co – directed with Terry Gilliam the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, and directed the Python movies “Life of Brian” and “The Meaning of Life”. In 2016, at the “BAFTA Cymru Awards”, Terry Jones received a “Lifetime Achievement award” for his outstanding contribution to television and film.

Miles Davis: Ascenseur pour l’échafaud

In January 1958, “Fontana” label released “Ascenseur pour l’échafaud”, album by Miles Davis. It was recorded on December 4 and 5, 1957, at “Le Poste Parisien Studio” in Paris. The album features the musical cues for the 1958 Louis Malle film “Ascenseur pour l’échafaud”.

Paul Simon: One-Trick Pony

In August 1980, “Warner Bros” label released “One-Trick Pony”, the fifth Paul Simon studio album. It was recorded 1979 – 1980, at “A&R Studios” in New York City and  “Agora Club” in Cleveland, Ohio, and was produced by Paul Simon and Phil Ramone. The album was released concurrently with the film of the same name, in which Paul Simon also starred.
