Firm: Mean Business

On February 3, 1986, “Atlantic” label released “Mean Business”, the second and final Firm album. It was recorded in 1985, and was produced by Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers and Julian Mendelsohn.

On January 27, 1986, “Virgin” label released “Album”, the fifth Public Image Ltd. album. It was recorded in 1985, at “Electric Lady Studios”, “The Power Station”, “Quadrasonic Sound Studios”, and “RPM Sound Studios” in  New York City, and was produced by Bill Laswell.

Dinah Washington

On December 14, 1963, Ruth Lee Jones aka Dinah Washington died aged 39. She was musician (piano) and singer, known as the “the most popular black female recording artist of the ’50s”, and “Queen of the Blues”. Her music was mixture of R&B, and traditional pop, but she was primarily a Jazz singer. She performed and recorded with Fats Waller, Clifford Brown, Clark Terry, Cannonball Adderley, Ben Webster, Lionel Hampton, and Nat King Cole. In 1986, Washington was inducted in the “Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame”, and in 1993 was inducted in the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”. In 1959, she won “Grammy Award” for “Best Rhythm & Blues Performance”. As a leader Washington released 17 albums.

Scott McKenzie

On August 18, 2012, Philip Wallach Blondheim III aka Scott McKenzie died aged 73. He was singer, songwriter and musician (piano, guitar), co-founder and member of the bands The Abstracts and The Journeyman, and member of the new version of The Mamas and the Papas (in 1986), but was best known for his song “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)”, that became the anthem of the whole Hippie generation.

It was recorded 1985 – 1986, at “The Power Station”, “Chelsea Sound”, “RCA Studios”, in New York City and “Evergreen Studios”, in Burbank, California, and was produced by Phil Ramone. The album was certified Platinum in Australia by “ARIA”, 2 x Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”, and 2 x Platinum in the US by “RIAA”.
