Foo Fighters: Wasting Light

On April 12, 2011, “Roswell/RCA” label released “Wasting Light”, the seventh Foo Fighters studio album. It was recorded September – December 2010, at Dave Grohl’s garage, and was produced by Butch Vig. In 2012, “Wasting Light” earned Foo Fighters five “Grammy Awards”, including “Best Rock Album”. The album was certified 2 x Platinum in Australia by “ARIA”, Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”, 2 x Platinum in New Zealand by “RMNZ”, and Platinum in UK by “BPI”.

George Michael

On December 25, 2016, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou aka George Michael died aged 53. He was singer, songwriter, and record producer, member (with Andrew Ridgeley) of the duo Wham!, and had a very successful solo career. In his 30-years long career, Michael sold more than 80 million records worldwide, becoming one of the most successful commercial artists in the history of the modern music. He also received many awards including three “Brit Awards”; four “MTV Video Music Awards”; four “Ivor Novello Awards”; three “American Music Awards” and two “Grammy Awards”.

James Brown

On December 25, 2006, James Joseph Brown died aged 73.  He was singer, songwriter, producer and bandleader, regarded as the creator of funk music, and one of the most important artists in the history of the modern music. Named the “Godfather of Soul” and the “Hardest Working Man in the Show Business”, for all the achievements in his six decades long career, Brown received many honors including” inductions into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”; “Songwriters Hall of Fame”; “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 34th annual “Grammy Awards”; “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 4th annual “Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Awards”; a star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame”; inductee to the “New York Songwriters Hall of Fame”; honored as the first “BMI Urban Icon” at the “BMI Urban Awards”, “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the “BET Awards”, and induction into the “UK Music Hall of Fame”.Magazine “Rolling Stone” ranked him at number seven on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”; in Joel Whitburn’s analysis of the “Billboard R&B” charts from 1942 to 2010, Brown was ranked as number one in “The Top 500 Artists”.list, magazine “Rolling Stone” cited him as the most sampled artist of all time, and In an article for the same magazine, critic Robert Christgau cited Brown as “The Greatest Musician of the Rock Era”. Brown is also one of the best sold artist of all times.

Roy Orbison

On December 6, 1988, Roy Kelton Orbison died aged 52. He was musician (guitar, harmonica), singer and songwriter, thanks to his distinctive and impassioned voice, named “Caruso of Rock” and nicknamed the Big O. In the period between 1960 and 1964, 22 of his songs placed on the Billboard Top 40. In 1987, Roy Orbison was inducted in the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” and in “Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame”; in 1989 in the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked him at number 37 on its list of the “Greatest Artists of All Time” and number 13 on the list of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time’. In 2002, “Billboard” magazine ranked Orbison at number 74 in its list of the “Top 600 Recording Artists”. Orbison won six “Grammy Awards”, including “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 1998.

The Police: Zenyatta Mondatta

On October 3, 1980, “A&M” label released “Zenyatta Mondatta” the third Police (The) studio album. It was recorded July – August 1980, at “Wisseloord Studios” in Hilversum, Netherlands, and was produced by Sting, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland and Nigel Gray. The album won two “Grammy Awards” including “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” for “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” and “Best Rock Instrumental Performance” for “Behind My Camel”.  The album was certified Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”; Platinum in France by “SNEP”; Platinum in UK by “BPI”, and 2 x Platinum in the US by “RIIA”.

On October 1, 1998, “Stockholm Records” label released “Gran Turismo” the fourth Cardigans (The) studio album. It was recorded in 1989, and was produced by Tore Johansson. In 1998, the album won two “Grammy Awards”: “Album of the Year” and “Pop/Rock Group of the Year”. The album was certified Platinum in Denmark by “IFPI Denmark”; 2 x Platinum in Sweden by “GLF”, and Platinum in UK by “BPI”.

On September 12, 2008, “Warner Bros” label released “Death Magnetic”, the ninth Metallica studio album. It was recorded March 2007 – May 2008, at “Sound City Studios”in Los Angeles; “Shangri La Studios” in Malibu, California; Metallica’s HQ in San Rafael, California, and was produced by Rick Rubin. On the 51st “Grammy Awards” in 2009, Metallica won “Grammy Awards” for “Best Metal Performance” for “My Apocalypse”. Producer Rick Rubin received the award for “Producer of the Year, Non-Classical”, and art directors Bruce Duckworth, David Turner & Sarah Moffat were awarded “Best Recording Package”.” Death Magnetic” was awarded “Best Album in the 2009” at Kerrang! Awards. In 2002, at the “Q Awards” the album was awarded “Best Album”. In 2003, the album won Coldplay “Grammy Awards” for “Best Alternative Album” and for “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” for the song “In My Place”, and was voted “Best British Album” at the “BRIT Awards”. In 2012, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “A Rush of Blood to the Head” at number 466 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. It was recorded 2008 – 2010, and was produce by  Will Butler, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Richard Reed Perry, Sarah Neufeld, Jeremy Gara, Tim Knigsbury and Markus Dravs. “The Suburbs” won “Album of the Year” at the 2011 “Grammy Awards”, “Best International Album” at the 2011 “BRIT Awards”, “Album of the Year” at the 2011 “Juno Awards”, and the 2011 “Polaris Music Prize” for best Canadian album. The album was certified 2 x Platinum in Canada by “CRIA” and Platinum in UK by the “BPI”.
