Lou Reed: Set The Twilight Reeling

On February 20, 1996, “Sire” label released “Set the Twilight Reeling”, the seventeenth Lou Reed album. It was recorded in 1995 at “The Roof” in New York, and was produced by Lou Reed. The album  song “Finish Line” was Reed’s tribute to Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison, who had died in 1995.

On February 20, 1995, “4th & B’way Records” label released “Maxinquaye”, the debut Tricky album. It was recorded at Tricky’s home studio and was produced by Tricky and co-produced by Mark Saunders. In 2013 “NME” magazine ranked “Maxinquaye” at number 202 at its list of “Best Albums of All Time”.

On February 20, 1984, “Rough Trade” label released the self-titled, debut Smiths (The) studio album. It was recorded in 1983 at “Pluto Studios” in Manchester, “Strawberry Studios” in Stockport, “Eden Studios” and “Matrix Studios” in London, and was produced by John Porter, Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and  Mike Joyce. Magazine ”Slant” ranked the album at number 51 on its list of “Best Albums of the 1980s”; in 1989, magazine “Rolling Stone” ranked “The Smiths” at number 22 on its list of the “100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s”, and in 2012, the album was ranked at number 472 on  magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. The album was ranked at number 51 on “Rolling Stone’s” list of the “100 Best Debut Albums of All Time”. In 1997, ”The Smiths” was ranked at number 73 in The Guardian’s list “100 Best Albums Ever”.

On February 20, 1979, “Dark Horse” label released the self-titled, eight George Harrison studio album.  It was recorded March – November 1978, at “FPSHOT” in Oxfordshire, and was produced by Russ Titelman and George Harrison. The album included  “Blow Away” and “Not Guilty”, songs  that Harrison originally recorded in 1968 for the Beatles’ “White Album”.

On February 20, 1974, “ABC” label released “Pretzel Logic”, the third Steely Dan studio album. It was recorded October 1973 – January 1974 at the “Village Recorder” in Los Angeles, and was produced by Gary Katz.  The cover photo of the New York pretzel seller was by Raeanne Rubenstein. On September 7, 1993, “Pretzel Logic” was certified Platinum in US by the “RIAA”. Magazine “NME” named “Pretzel Logic” best album of 1974. Magazine “Rolling Stone” ranked “Pretzel Logic” at number 385 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On February 20, 1974, “Virgin” label released “Phaedra” the fifth Tangerine Dream studio album. It was recorded in November 1973 at “The Manor” in Shipton-on-Cherwell, England, and was produced by Edgar Froese. In the magazines “Q” and “Mojo” Classic Special Edition “Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock”, “Phaedra” was ranked at number 38 in its list of “40 Cosmic Rock Albums”.

On February 19, 2002, “Sprint Music” label album released “Capricornia”, the eleventh Midnight Oil album.  It was recorded 2000 – 2001, and was produced by Warne Livesey, Daniel Denholm, Peter Garrett, Bones Hillman, Rob Hirst, Jim moginie and Martin Rotsey. The concept and the name of “Capricornia”  was taken from the novel of the same name written by the Australian author Xavier Herbert.
