Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral

The_Downward_Spiral

On March 9, 1994, “Interscope” label released “The Downward Spiral”, the second Nine Inch Nails studio album. It  was recorded 1992 – 1993, at “Le Pig” in Beverly Hills;” Record Plant Studios” and “A&M Studios” in Los Angeles, and was produced by Trent Reznor and Mark Flood Ellis. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 201 on its list of the “500 greatest albums of all time”. The album was placed 10th on magazine “Spin” list of “125 Best Albums of the Past 25 Years” In 2001, “Q” magazine named  “The Downward Spiral” as one of the “50 Heaviest Albums of All Time” and in 2010, the album was ranked number 102 on their “250 Best Albums of Q’s Lifetime”.

Ali Farka Touré

On March 7, 2006, Ali Ibrahim “Farka” Touré died aged 66. He was multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, one of Africa’s internationally most renowned musicians. Magazine “Rolling Stone” ranked Touré at number 76 on its list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”,and magazine “Spin” ranked him at number 37 on its list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.

Van Morrison Moondance

On February 28, 1970, “Warner Bros” label released “Moondance”, the  third Van Morrison studio album. It was recorded August – December 1969, at “A & R Studios” in New York, and was produced by Lewis Merenstein and Van Morrison. The album was certified 3 x Platinum in US by the “RIAA,” In 1989 “Spin” magazine ranked “Moondance” at number 21 at list of the “All-time 25 Greatest Albums”; in 1999, the album was inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame”; in 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Moondance” at number 65 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of all Time”; in 2006 “Time” included the album in its list of “The All-Time 100 Albums”, and in 2007, the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” named it as one of their “Definitive 200” albums, ranking it 72nd.

On February 27, 1995, “Island” label released “To Bring You My Love”, the third PJ Harvey studio album. It was recorded September – October 1994, at “Townhouse Studios” in London, and was produced by John Parish and PJ Harvey. “Spin” magazine ranked the album at number 3 in a list of the “Best Albums of the 90s”; in 2003,  “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “To Bring You My Love” at number 435 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”; in 2011 “Slant Magazine”, rated the album as 20th best album of the 90s.

On February 1, 1986, “Homestead” released “Atomizer”, the debut Big Black album.  It was recorded in 1985, and was produced by Steve Albini, Santiago Durango and Dave Riley. The album was ranked at number 11 in “Alternative Press” magazine list of “Top Albums of ’85 to ‘95”; magazine “Spin” ranked “Atomizer” at number 83 in its list of “100 Alternative Albums” and at number 92 in its list of “Top 100 (+5) Albums of the Last 20 Years” and “NME” ranked the album at number 372 in its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On January 31, 1985, “SST” label released “New Day Rising”, the third Hüsker Dü studio album.  It was recorded in July 1984 at “Nicollet Studios” in Minneapolis, and was produced by Bob Mould, Grant Hart, Greg Norton and Spot. Magazine “Spin” ranked “New Day Rising” at number 13 at its list “100 Greatest Albums, 1985-2005.”; the album is ranked at number 488 on “Rolling Stone” magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

It was recorded January – August 1969, at several locations in the United Kingdom and North America, and was produced by Jimmy Page. In 1989,  “Spin”  magazine ranked the album at number 5 on its list of “The 25 Greatest Albums of All Time”; in 2000, “Q” magazine ranked “Led Zeppelin II” at number 37 on its list of the “100 Greatest British Albums Ever”; in 2003, Rolling Stone” magazine the album at number 75 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time “Led Zeppelin II” was the band’s first album to reach number one in the UK and the US. “Led Zeppelin II” was ranked 4 x Platinum in Australia by “ARIA”; 9 x Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”; Platinum in Germany by “BVMI”; 4 x Platinum in UK by “BPI”, and 12× Platinum in the US by the “RIAA”.
