On January 13, 1964, “Columbia” label released “The Times They Are a-Changin’”, the third Bob Dylan studio album. It was recorded August – October, 1963, at the “Columbia Studios” in New York City, and was produced by Tom Wilson. This is the first Dylan album to feature only original compositions.

On December 12, 1980, “CBS” label released “Sandinista!”, the fourth Clash studio album. The triple album 36 songs were recorded February – August 1980, at “Pluto Studios” in Manchester; “The Power Station” in New York, “Electric Lady Studios” in New York City, “Channel One Studios” in Kingston, and  at “Wessex Studios” in London, and was produced by Mikey Dread, Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Sandinista” on number 404, on it’s list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”; Sandinista! was voted best album of the year in the Pazz & Jop critics poll in “The Village Voice” and in 2012, “Slant” magazine ranked the album at number 85 on its “Best Albums of the 1980s”.

Disraeli Gears

On November 2, 1967, “Reaction” label released “Disraeli Gears”, the second Cream studio album. It was recorded in May 1967, at the “Atlantic Studios” in New York City, and was produced by Felix Pappalardi. In 1999, the album was inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame”, and in 2003, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked it at number 114 on it’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On September 9, 1971, “Apple” label released “Imagine”, the second John Lennon studio album. It was recorded February – July , 1971 at the “Ascot Sound Studios”, Surrey; “Abbey Road Studios”, London and “Record Plant” in New York City, and was produced by John Lennon, Yoko Ono and Phil Spector. The album was ranked at number 80 on the “Rolling Stone” magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

Donny Hathaway

On January 13, 1979, Donny Edward Hathaway died aged 34. He was musician (piano, keyboards), singer and songwriter, started successful career after signing contract with “Atlantic Records” in 1969 and after releasing his first single for the “Atco” label, “The Ghetto, Part I”. The “Rolling Stone” magazine “marked him as a major new force in soul music” in 1970 and his collaboration with Roberta Flack won him the “Grammy Award” for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals” for the duet, “Where Is the Love” in 1973. On January 13, 1979, Hathaway’s body was found outside the luxury hotel “Essex House” in New York City; his death was ruled a suicide.
