On February 3, 1998, “Epic” label released “Yield”, the fifth Pearl Jam studio album.  It was recorded February – September 1997, at “Studio Litho” and “Studio X” in Seattle, “Southern Tracks Recording” and  “Doppler Studios” in Atlanta, and was produced by  Brendan O’Brien,  Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Jack Irons, Mike McCready and Eddie Vedder. The album was certified Platinum in US by the “RIAA”.

On February 3, 1997, “Mercury” label released “White on Blonde”, the fourth Texas studio album.  It was recorded 1994 – 1997, at “Chateau De La Rouge” in France, “The Church” in London, “Abbey Road Studios” and “Parklane Studios” in London, and was produced by Sharleen Spiteri, Ally McErlaine, Johnny McElhore, Eddie Campbell, Richard Hynd, Mike Hedges, Dave Stewart and Rae Christian. It has been certified 6x Platinum by the “British Phonographic Industry”. In 1988, the album was voted the 86th greatest album of all time by “Q” magazine readers, and it was ranked at number 34 in “Q’s” “Best 50 Albums of Q’s Lifetime.”

On February 3, 1997, “Virgin” label released “Earthling” the twentieth David Bowie studio album.  It was recorded March – August 1996, at “Mountain Studios” in Montreux, and at “Looking Glass Studio” in New York. This was the first album Bowie self-produced since 1974 “Diamond Dogs”, together with Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati.

It was recorded August – November 1987, at the “Studio Tempo” in Montréal and “Rock Steady” in Los Angeles, and was produced by Leonard Cohen, Roscoe Beck, Jean-Michel Reusser and Michel Robidoux.  Pitchfork Media ranked the album at number 51 on its list “100 Best Albums of the 1980s”; “Slant” magazine listed the album at number 29 on its list of “Best Albums of the 1980s”.

Mongo Santamaria

On February 1, 2003, Ramón “Mongo” Santamaría Rodríguez died aged 85. He was musician (congas, bongos), performed and recorded with Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, Fania All Stars, Dizzy Gillespie, Toots Thielemans, Lalo Schifrin and Paul Horn. His 1977 album “Amanecer” won a “Grammy” award, and his hit rendition of Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man” was inducted into the “Grammy Hall of Fame” in 1998. He is composer of the jazz standard “Afro Blue”, recorded by John Coltrane among others.

On February 1, 2005, “Secretly Canadian” label released “I Am a Bird Now”, the second Antony and the Johnsons album.  It was recorded in 2004, and was produced by Antony Hegarty. On September 6, 2005, the album won the “Mercury Prize”.
