The Aristocrats: Same

Scott McKenzie

On August 18, 2012, Philip Wallach Blondheim III aka Scott McKenzie died aged 73. He was singer, songwriter and musician (piano, guitar), co-founder and member of the bands The Abstracts and The Journeyman, and member of the new version of The Mamas and the Papas (in 1986), but was best known for his song “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)”, that became the anthem of the whole Hippie generation.

Parquet Courts: Light Up Gold

On August 18, 2012, “Dull Tools” label released “Light Up Gold”, the second Parquet Courts studio album. It was recorded in 2012 and was produced by Jonathan Schenke.

Bob Birch

On August 15, 2012, Bob Birch died aged 56. He was singer and musician (bass, bassoon, and saxophone), a member of Warpipes. He recorded and  performed with Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Bryan Adams, Lionel  Richie, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Phil Collins, Keith Emerson,  Joseph  Williams, Jose Feliciano, and Edgar Winter.

Yellowcard: Southern Air

On August 14, 2012, “Hopeless Records” label released “Southern Air”, the eighth Yellowcard studio album. It was recorded March – April 2012 and was produced by Neal Avron.

Robert Kreinar

On July 16, 2012, Robert Kreinar aka Bob Babbitt died aged 74. He was musician (bass), member of the “Motown Records” studio band The Funk Brothers, MFSB for “Philadelphia International Records”, and founding member of Scorpion. As a session musician Babbitt recorded for Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, Gloria Gaynor, Robert Palmer, Alice Cooper, Gladys Knight & the Pips, The Spinners, Stevie Wonder, Edwin Starr, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Freda Payne, The Temptations, and The Main Ingredient. “Bass Player” magazine ranked Babbitt at number 59 on its list of the “100 Greatest Bass Players of All Time”.

Keith Jarrett’s European Quartet: Sleeper

On July 13, 2012, “ECM” label released “Sleeper”, the third Keith Jarrett’s “European Quartet” album. It was recorded on April 16, 1979, in Tokyo, and was produced by Manfred Eicher.
