Fairport Convention: Unhalfbricking

On July 3, 1969, “Island” label released “Unhalfbricking”, the third Fairport Convention  album. It was recorded January – April 1969, at “Sound Techniques” and “Olympic Studios” in London, and was produced by Joe Boyd, Simon Nico, Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings, Simon Nicol and Martin Lamble.

Black Holes

On July 3, 2006, “Warner Bros” label released “Black Holes and Revelations”, the fourth Muse studio album. It was recorded August – December 2005, and was produced by Rich Costey and Muse. The album design was by Storm Thorgerson. In 2008, in a “Q” magazine public vote, “Black Holes and Revelations” was ranked at number 34 on the list of the “The Best British Albums of All time”. The album was certified Platinum in Australia by “ARIA”; Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”; 3 x Platinum in France by “SNEP”;  Platinum in Ireland by “IRMA”; Platinum in Italy by “FIMI”; Platinum in Switzerland by “IFPI Switzerland” and 3 x Platinum in UK by the “BPI”.

On July 3, 2001, “Sympathy for the Record Industry” label released “White Blood Cells”, the third White Stripes studio album. It was recorded in February 2001, at “Easley-McCain Recording” in Memphis, Tennessee, and was produced by Jack White. “Spin” magazine named “White Blood cells” the “Best Album of 2001”; in 2003, “NME” magazine ranked it at number 20 on its list of  the “Top 100 Albums of All Time”; in 2012, “Rolling Stone” ranked the album at number 497 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

On July 3, 1968, “Elektra” label released “Waiting for the Sun”, the third Doors studio album. It was recorded February – May 1968, at “TTG Studios” in Hollywood, and was produced by Paul A. Rothchild.  “Waiting for the Sun” became the band’s first and only No. 1 album. The album was certified Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”; Platinum in Canada by “Music Canada”; 2 x Gold in France by “SNEP”; Gold in Germany by “BVMI”; Gold un UK by “BPI”.

Jim Morrison

On July 3, 1971, James Douglas “Jim” Morrison, died aged 27. He was a singer, songwriter, and poet, best known as the lead singer of The Doors. His poetic odes to rebellion, his charismatic, wild personality, and his mysterious death made him one of the most legendary, Influential, and best-loved rock artists of all times. On the “Rolling Stone” magazine list of “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” Morrison was ranked 47.

Brian Jones

On July 3, 1969, Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones died aged 27. He was musician (guitar, sitar, harmonica, keyboards) and songwriter,  the founder, and original bandleader of the Rolling Stones. As he developed a serious drug problem over the years, his role in the band slowly diminished and Jagger and Richards overshadowed him. In June 1969, he was asked to leave the band and was replaced by Mick Taylor. Jones died by drowning in the swimming pool at his home on Cotchford Farm Hartfield, East Sussex. Bill Wyman (the original Rolling Stones bass player) said of Jones, “He formed the band, he chose the members. He named the band. He chose the music we played. He got us gigs. ..Very influential, very important, and then slowly lost it – highly intelligent – and just kind of wasted it and blew it all away.”
