Frank Sinatra: Strangers In The Night

On May 30, 1966, “Reprise” label released “Strangers in the Night”, the 43rd Frank Sinatra album. It was recorded April – May 1966, in Hollywood, and was produced by Jimmy Bowen. At the 1967 “Grammy Awards”, Frank Sinatra won “Record of the Year” and “Best Male Vocal Performance”. Ernie Freeman’s arrangement of the title track won him the “Grammy Award for Best Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist or Instrumentalist”, and Eddie Brackett and Lee Herschberg’s engineering earned them the “Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical”. The album was certified Platinum in Us by the “RIIA”.

In February 1980, “Arista” label released the self-titled, debut Willie Nile album. It was recorded in 1979, at ”Record Plant” in New York City, and was produced by Roy Halee. “Stereo Review” magazine voted it (together with The Clash “London Calling”) “Record of the Year” for 1980.

Roberta Flack: Killing Me Softly

On August 1, 1973, “Atlantic” label released “Killing Me Softly”, the fifth Roberta Flack album. It was recorded 1972 – 1973, and was produced by Joel Dorn. “Killing Me Softly” won the 1974 “Grammy Award for Record of the Year”. In 2006, the album was certified 2 x Platinum in US by the “RIIA”.

It w was produced byas recorded April 1966-March 1967, and was produced by Marc Gordon, Willie Hutch, Johnny Rivers and Rob Santos. In 1967, “Up, Up and Away” won four “Grammy Award” including “Record of the Year”.

It was recorded 1999, at “Record Plant” in Sausalito, California, and was produced by Clive Davis, Jerry ‘Wonder’ Duplessis, The Dust Brothers, Alex González, Charles Goodan, Lauryn Hill, Art Hodge, Wyclef Jean, Fher Olvera, K.C. Porter, Dante Ross, Matt Serletic and Stephen Harris. The album was huge commercial success, selling more than thirty million copies worldwide, and becoming Santana’s best sold album ever. It was certified 15 x Platinum in the US by the”RIIA’. “Supernatural”  won nine “Grammy Awards”, including “Album of the Year”, and three “Latin Grammy Awards” including “Record of the Year”.

On April 3, 1968, “Columbia” label released “Bookends”, the fourth Simon and Garfunkel studio album. It was recorded September 1966, January 1967, June 1967, October 1967−February 1968, at “Columbia Studio A & B” in Manhattan, and was produced by Paul Simon, Roy Halee and Art Garfunkel. In 1969, at the 11th “Annual Grammy Awards”, “Mrs. Robinson” became the first rock and roll song to win “Record of the Year” and also  won award for “Best Contemporary Pop Performance by a Duo or Group”
