On October 23, 2000, “Island” label released “Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea”, the fifth PJ Harvey studio album. It was recorded March–April 2000, at “Great Linford Manor” in Milton Keynes, UK, and was produced by Rob Ellis, Mick Harvey and PJ Harvey. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 8 on its list of “The 50 Essential “Women in Rock” Albums”. In 2002, “Q” magazine named “Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea” the “Greatest Album of All-Time by a Female Artist”.In 2006, “Time” magazine choose the album as one of the “100 Best Albums of All Time”. The album was certified Platinum in Australia by “ARIA”, and Platinum in UK by “BPI”.

On September 15, 2008, Richard William “Rick” Wright died aged 65. He  was musician (keyboards), composer, singer and songwriter, best known as founding member, keyboardist and vocalist of Pink Floyd. He recorded and performed on all Pink Floyd’s albums except on “The Final Cut”.

It was recorded October–November 2001, March–June 2002, at “The Site” in San Rafael, California, “Conway Recording Studios”;“Barefoot” in Hollywood, and was produced by  Josh Homme, Adam Kasper and  Eric Valentine. “Songs for the Deaf” was certified Platinum in Europe by “IFPI”.

In 2002, at the “Q Awards” the album was awarded “Best Album”. In 2003, the album won Coldplay “Grammy Awards” for “Best Alternative Album” and for “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” for the song “In My Place”, and was voted “Best British Album” at the “BRIT Awards”. In 2012, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “A Rush of Blood to the Head” at number 466 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. The title implies the opposite of the term “Red Letter Days” which are holidays – a “black letter day” being all the ordinary days in a given month.
