On January 2, 1926, first issue of “Melody Maker”, British weekly magazine was published. “Melody Maker” was probably the earliest world music magazine and at its beginnings it was magazine for jazz, dance bands and musicians. Publisher was Lawrence Wright and the first editor was Edgar Jackson. In 2000 “Melody Maker’ was merged into “New Musical Express”.

U2: All That You Can’t Leave Behind
On October 30, 2000, “Island” label released “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”, the tenth U2 studio album. It was recorded 1998 – 2000, at the” HQ”,” Windmill Lane Studios”,”Westland Studios” and“Totally Wired” in Dublin, and was produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. The album and its songs won seven “Grammy Awards”. In 2012, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” at number 280 at its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

Michael Jackson
On June 25, 2009, Michael Joseph Jackson died aged 50. He was singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor, named the “King of Pop” and regarded as one of the most important artists in the history of the popular music and culture. His 1982 album “Thriller” is the best-selling album of all time and the video clips for his songs “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” turned down the racial barriers and transformed the music videos into an art form. Jackson is the most awarded artists in the history of the modern music – he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”, he was inducted into the “Songwriters Hall of Fame” and in to the “Dance Hall of Fame” as the first and only dancer from pop and rock music. He is multiple winner of “Guinness World Records”, he won thirteen “Grammy Awards”, the “Grammy Legend Award”, the “Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award”, twenty six “American Music Awards”, he was voted the “Artist of the Century” and “Artist of the 1980s”. In his solo career, Jackson had thirteen number-one singles in the US, he is the only artist to have top ten singles in the “Billboard Hot 100” and sold more than four hundred millions records worldwide. For his humanitarian job and activities, in 2000, Jackson was recognized by the “Guinness World Records” as the most humanitarian entertainer in the history, supporting 39 various charities.
Tito Puente
On June 1, 2000, Ernesto Antonio “Tito” Puente died aged 77. He was musician (timbales, vibraphone, drums, sax, piano, bass, bongos, congas) and composer, Puente is credited as “The Musical Pope”, “The King of the timbales” and “The King of Latin music”. In his 50-year career he has performed with many famous musicians, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Cella Cruze and Eddie Palmieri and has recorded as a leader more than forty albums. Puente is author of big number of Latin standards, including the world famous “Oye Como Va”.
Ian Dury
On March 27, 2000, Ian Robins Dury died aged 58. He was singer, songwriter, and artist, member of “Kilburn and the High Roads”, best known as the lead singer and leader of “Ian Dury and the Blockheads”.
Lonesome Dave
On February 7, 2000, Dave Jack Peverett or Lonesome Dave died 56. He was musician (guitar) and singer, member of the bands “Savoy Brown” and “Foghat”.
