Magic Sam: Live At The Avant Garde

On November 18, 2013, “Delmark” label released “Live at the Avant Garde”, the eleventh Magic Sam (Samuel Gene Maghett) album. It was recorded in June 1968, at “The Avant Garde” in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was produced by Jim Charne and Robert G. Koester.

On September 5, 1995, “Alligator” label released “Blue Streak”, the 19th Luther Allison album. It was recorded in 1995 and was produced by Jim Gaines, Luther Allison, and James Solberg.

Luther Allison

On August 12, 1997, Luther Allison died aged 57. He was musician (guitar), worked with Howlin’ Wolf, Freddie King, Jimmy Dawkins, James Cotton, Magic Sam, and Otis Rush. In 1998, Allison was posthumously inducted into the “Blues Hall of Fame”. He released 27 albums (5 released posthumously).

Otis Rush

On September 29, 2018, Otis Rush died aged 84. He was musician (guitar), singer, and songwriter, together with Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, regarded as creator of the West Side Chicago blues style. In 1984, Rush was elected to the “Blues Hall of Fame”; in 2015, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked him at number 53 on its list of “100 Greatest Guitarists”; in 2018, “Jazz Foundation of America” honored Rush with a “Lifetime Achievement Award”. Rush influenced many musicians, including Peter Green, Michael Bloomfield and Eric Clapton.

The Rolling Stones: Blue & Lonesome

On December 2, 2016, “Polydor” label released “Blue & Lonesome”, the 23rd Rolling Stones album. It was recorded in December 2015, at “British Grove Studios” and was produced by Don Was and The Glimmer Twins. It is the band’s first album to feature only cover songs. The album won “Album of the Year” at the “2017 Jazz FM Awards”. “Blue & Lonesome” was certified Platinum in Austria by “IFPI Austria”; Platinum in Belgium by “BEA”; 2 x Platinum in France by “SNEP”; Platinum in Poland by “ZPAV”, and Platinum in UK by “BPI”.
