Lana Del Rey: Born To Die

Born To Die

On January 30, 2012, “Interscope Records” label released “Born to Die”, the second Lana Del Ray studio album. It was recorded in 2010 and 2011, and was produced by Patrik Berger, Chris Braide, Emile Haynie, Rick Nowels, Robopop and Al Shux. The album was certified Platinum in US by “RIAA”.  Until May 2015, “Born to Die” has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide.

MGMT: Oracular Spectacular

On January 22, 2008, “Columbia” label released “Oracular Spectacular”, the first MGMT major label studio album. It was recorded March – April 2007, and was produced by Dave Fridmann. In 2012, magazine “Rolling Stone” ranked  “Oracular Spectacular” at number 494 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

Metallica: Same

Metallica-the-Black-Album

On August 12, 1991, “Elektra” label released the self-titled, fifth Metallica album (known as “The Black Album”). It was recorded October 1990 – June 1991, at “One on One Recording Studios” and was produced by Bob Rock, James Hetfield, and Lars Ulrich. The album received worldwide critical acclaim and became the band’s best selling album ever. As of November 2014, the album has spent 328 weeks on the “Billboard” album chart, making it one of the ten longest-running discs of all time. The album was certified 16× Platinum in the USA by the “RIAA”. On December 13, 2012, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked the album at number 225 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

Jon Lord

On July 16, 2012, John Douglas “Jon” Lord, died aged 71. He was musician (piano, keyboard, Hammond organ) and composer, best known as member of Deep Purple. Lord also performed with Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord, The Artwoods, and The Flower Pot Men. On November 11, 2010, he was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of “Stevenson College” in Edinburgh,  and on July 15,  2011, Lord was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree at “De Montfort Hall” by the University of Leicester.

Jim Marshall

On April 5, 2012, Jim Marshall died aged 88. “The Father of loud” or “The Lord of loud” was an English businessman and pioneer of guitar amplification. His company  “Marshall Amplification” and his amplifiers changed the face of rock music and granted iconic status among the world best known guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend, Kurt Cobain, Yngwie Malmsteen, Slash, Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young. In 2003, Marshall was awarded an “OBE” for “services to the music industry.

U2: The Joshua Tree

On March 9, 1987, “Island” label released “The Joshua Tree”, the fifth U2 studio album . It was recorded January 1986 – January 1987, at “STS Studios”, “Danesmoate House”, “Windmill Lane Studios”, and was produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. In 1988, “The Joshua Tree” won “Grammy Awards”  for  “Album of the Year” and “Best Rock Performance” by a “Duo or Group with Vocal”.  It is U2 best sold album with more than 25 million copies sold worldwide.  In 1995, the album was certified 10× Platinum in US by “RIAA”, and  album subsequently received the “Diamond” certificate. In Canada it was certified Diamond by “Canadian Recording Industry Association”, In UK it was certified 8 x Platinum by “BPI”, with an additional silver certification for the 20th anniversary edition. In 2012, “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked it at number 27 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.
