Hawkwind: Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music

On August 26, 1976, “Charisma” label released “Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music”, the sixth Hawkwind studio album. It was recorded February–March 1976 at the “Roundhouse Studios”, and was produced by Robert Calvert, Dave Brock, Alan Powell, Nik Turner, Paul Rudolph, Simon House and Simon King.. The album title makes references to SF magazine “Astounding and Amazing Stories” and the cover is a parody of the covers of  old SF magazines.

On August 27, 1976, “Bronze” label released “The Roaring Silence”, the seventh Manfred Mann’s Earth Band album. It was recorded in 1976, at “Workhouse Studios” in London, and was produced by Manfred Mann, Colin Pattenden, Dave Flett, Chris Hamlet Thompson and Chris Slade.

On August 25, 1976, “Epic” label the self-titled, debut Boston studio album. It was recorded October 1975 – April 1976, and was produced by John Boylan and Tom Scholz. The album was big commercial success, selling more than 25 million copies worldwide and becoming one of the best-selling debut albums of all time. The album was certified Diamond in Canada by “Music Canada” and 17 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”.

On August 18, 1976, “Island” label released “Man in the Hills”, the fourth Burning Spear album. It was recorded in 1976, at “Randy’s Recording Studio” and “Harry J’s Recording Studio” in Kingston,  and was produced by Jack Ruby.

Duster Bennett

On March 26, 1976, Anthony “Duster” Bennett died aged 30. He was  musician (acoustic guitar, slide guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, percussion, drums, keyboards, bass guitar, mandolin), performed as a one-man band, playing a bass, guitar, drum with his foot and blowing a harmonica on a rack. Bennett worked with Alexis Korner, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and Fleetwood Mac.
