Joseph Michael “Dusty” Hill
On July 28, 2021, Joseph Michael “Dusty” Hill died aged 72. He was musician (bass guitar, keyboards), singer and songwriter, performed and recorded with Willy & the Wolves, Freddie King, The Warlocks, The Cellar Dwellers, American Blues, but was best known as bassist and vocalist of ZZ Top. In 2004, as member of ZZ Top he was inducted in the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”.
Robert Welch Jr.
On June 7, 2012, Robert Lawrence Welch Jr. died aged 66. He was musician (vocal, guitar, bass guitar) and songwriter, member of the bands Seven Souls, Head West and Paris, but was best known as vocalist and guitarist of Fleetwood Mac (1971 – 1974). As leader Welch released seven studio albums.
Daniel Hartman
On March 22, 1994, Daniel Earl Hartman died aged 43. He was musician (guitar, bass guitar, keyboards), singer, songwriter and music producer. As songwriter, musician and producer he collaborated with many musicians and bands including The Edgar Winter Group, James Brown, the Plasmatics, Steve Winwood, Time Bandits, Paul King, Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Holly Johnson, Take That, Dusty Springfield, Bonnie Tyler, Living in a Box and Paul Young. As leader Hartman released eight albums.
Jaco Pastorius
On September 21, 1987, John Francis Anthony “Jaco” Pastorius III died aged 35. He was a musician (bass), a member of Weather Report (1976 – 1981). Regarded as one of the best world bass players, he worked and recorded with Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Randy Bernsen, Little Beaver, Ira Sullivan, Albert Mangelsdorff, Ian Hunter, Airto Moreira, Tom Scott, Flora Purim, Cockrell & Santos, Michel Colombier, Manolo Badrena, Michel Polnareff, Bob Mintzer, Brian Melvin, Jimmy Cliff, Brian Melvin Trio, and Mike Stern. In 2006 Pastorius was voted “The Greatest Bass Player Who Has Ever Lived” by readers in Bass Guitar magazine, and was inducted in the Down Beat “Hall of Fame”. During his lifetime Pastorius released four albums as a leader.
Jeff Buckley
On May 29, 1997, Jeffrey Scott “Jeff” Buckley died aged 30. Son of Tim Buckley, he was singer-songwriter and musician ( guitar, organ,harmonium, Appalachian dulcimer and bass guitar). In 1994 “Columbia” released his only studio album, the highly acclaimed “Grace”. Magazine “Rolling Stone” considered Jeff Buckley as one of the greatest singers of all time.
Duster Bennett
On March 26, 1976, Anthony “Duster” Bennett died aged 30. He was musician (acoustic guitar, slide guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, percussion, drums, keyboards, bass guitar, mandolin), performed as a one-man band, playing a bass, guitar, drum with his foot and blowing a harmonica on a rack. Bennett worked with Alexis Korner, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and Fleetwood Mac.
