Bobby Whitlock
On August 10, 2025, Robert Stanley “Bobby” Whitlock died aged 77. He was musician (keyboards, guitar), vocalist and songwriter, best known as member of Derek and the Dominos (co-founder with Eric Clapton). Whitlock was known as the first white musician signed to Stax Records. He recorded and performed with many artists, including George Harrison, Delaney & Bonnie, Eric Clapton, Doris Troy, John Simon, Manassas and Dr. John. As leader he released 14 albums.
Eddie Palmieri
On August 6, 2025, Eduardo Palmieri died aged 88. He was musician (piano), composer, arranger, and bandleader, regarded as one of the main figures of the Latino music of all times. He was founder of the bands La Perfecta, La Perfecta II, and Harlem River Drive, and created an incredible soundtrack of Latin jazz and explorations of salsa for the Puerto Rican community in New York City. Palmieri recorded and released 45 albums.

He was musician (guitar), singer and songwriter, member of Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers, known by the nickname “Superlungs”, due to his emotive style of singing. His songs have been recorded by numerous artists including The Hollies, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, Arrival, Jack White with The Raconteurs, Joe Perry, Rumer Christopher, Cheap Trick, Marianne Faithfull, Charles Romero and Chris Cornell. As leader he released seven studio and four live albums.
Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez
On July 31, 2025, Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez died aged 86. He was musician (accordion, bajo sexto), singer and composer, known for having played conjunto, norteño and tejano. He was member of the Texas Tornados, Los Super Seven and the Free Mexican Airforce. Jiménez recorded and performed with Dr. John, David Lindley, The Rolling Stones, Peter Rowan, Ry Cooder and Bob Dylan. He received numerous awards and honors, including “Lifetime Achievement Awards” from the “Grammys”, “Americana Music Awards”, “Tejano Music Awards” and Billboard magazine. As leader, Jiménez released 27th studio and one live album.
Chuck Mangione
On July 22, 2025, Charles Frank Mangione died aged 84. He was musician (flugelhorn, trumpet, piano) and composer, came to prominence as a member of Art Blakey’s band in the 1960s. With his brother Gap, he led the Mangione Brothers Sextet/Quintet, later was member of the band The National Gallery, from 1968 – 1972 was director of the Eastman Jazz Ensemble, formed quartet with Gerry Niewood, in the late 70’s he lead ensemble with Chris Vadala, Grant Geissman, Charles Meeks and James Bradley Jr. As leader he released 29th albums.
David Cousins
On July 13, 2025, David Joseph Cousins died aged 85. He was musician (guitar, banjo, Appalachian dulcimer), singer and song-writer, best known as the founding member and leader of The Strawbs. As leader, Cousins released ten albums.
Lalo Schifrin
On June 26, 2025, Boris Claudio “Lalo” Schifrin died aged 93. He was musician (piano), composer, arranger, and conductor, best known for his work on movie and TV scores, for which he won five “Grammy Awards”. Schifrin recorded, performed and created arrangements for Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Cannonball Adderley, Maurice Ander, Count Basie, Louis Bellson, Luiz Bonfa, Candido Camero, Al Hirt, Julia Migenes, Astor Piazzolla, David Shifrin, Placido Domingo, Sarah Vaughan and Cal Tjader. As leader he released 53 studio and live albums, and 43 soundtrack albums.

In June 2025, Michael Geoffrey Ralphs died aged 81. He was musician (guitar), vocalist and songwriter, member of the bands Buddies, Doc Thomas Group and Mick Ralphs Blues Band, but was best known as founding member of Mott the Hoople and Bad Company. As leader, he released three albums.
Sly Stone
On June 9, 2025, Sylvester Stewart aka Sly Stone died age 82. He was musician (keyboards, guitar, bass, harmonica), singer, songwriter and producer, one of the most important figures in the development of funk with his pioneering fusion of soul, rock, psychedelia, and gospel in the 1960s and 1970s. Sly Stone collaborated with Funkadelic, Parliament, Jesse Johnson and Bobby Womack, but was best known as founding member and leader of the band Sly and the Family Stone. In 1993, he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”. He released his autobiography “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin). As leader he released two albums.
