On March 3, 2023, David Perry Lindley died aged 78. He was musician (violin, acoustic and electric guitar, lap steel guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, upright and electric bass, cittern, bağlama, gumbus, charango, cümbüş, oud and zither. Lindley was founding member of the bands Kaleidoscope and El Rayo-X, recorded and performed with Ry Cooder, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Curtis Mayfield, Dolly Parton, Waren Zevon, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, James Taylor, David Crosby, Terry Reid, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Toto, Rod Stewart, Dan Fogelberg, Joe Walsh, Henry Kaiser, G. Robert Eugene Steinhardt
On July 17, 2021, Robert Eugene Steinhardt died aged 71. He was musician (violin, viola, tambourine) and singer, member of Stormbringer Band, founder and leader of the band Steinhardt Moon, but was best known as violin player and co-lead singer of Kansas.
Lead Belly
On December 6, 1949, Huddie William Ledbetter aka Lead Belly died aged 61. He was musician (guitar, piano, mandolin, harmonica, violin, windjammer), regarded as one of the pioneers of the blues and folk music. His songs covered a wide range of genres including folk, blues, and gospel, some of them like “Goodnight, Irene”, “Midnight Special”, “Cotton Fields”, and “Boll Weevil” became standards, and influenced generations of musicians. In 1988, Lead Belly was posthumously inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”, and in 2008 in the “Louisiana Music Hall of Fame”.
David Swarbrick
On June 3, 2016, David Cyril Eric Swarbrick died aged 75. He was singer-songwriter and musician (violin, viola, mandolin, guitar), one of the most highly regarded musicians from the second British folk revival, contributing to some of the most important groups and projects of the 1960s. He has worked with Ian Campbell Folk Group, Martin Carthy, Whippersnapper and Swarb’s Lazarus, but was best known for his work with Fairport Convention. Swarbrick recorded thirteen albums as a leader.
