George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968 – 1975

On September 23, 2014, “Universal Music Group” label released “George Harrison – The Apple Years 1968-1975”, a seven CD box with some of the most popular George Harrison solo albums. The seven CD’s plus an 40-minute DVD box contains the following albums:

“Wonderwall Music”

“Electronic Sound”

“All Things Must Pass”

“Living in the Material World”

“Dark Horse”

“Extra Texture

The DVD contains a short music movie named “The Apple Years” and videos and short documentaries about Harrison’s albums featured in the CD box. Dhani Harrison (George Harrison’s son) is the executive producer and together with the engineer Paul Hicks have remastered the sound from the original analogue tapes.

On September 17, 1931, company “RCA Victor” presented the first long playing record at 33 1/3 rpm. The presentation was carried out at the Savoy Plaza Hotel in New York.The new format fail to reach mass production due to the high price of the record players, which started around $95 and wasn’t revived until 1948.

On September 10, 2005, The Beatles track “A Day in the Life” from the album “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” was voted the best British song of all time by the British music experts. Magazine “Q” named the track “the ultimate sonic rendition of what it means to be British”. The Kinks’ song ‘Waterloo Sunset’ was second and Oasis song “Wonderwall” was voted third on the list.

On September 08, 1968, The Beatles performed “Hey Jude” on the BBC TV show “Frost On Sunday” .This song was the first single from The Beatles record label “Apple Records”. It spent nine weeks as no.1 on the US charts becoming the longest run at the top for The Beatles. “Hey Jude” was over seven minutes long, at the time the longest single ever to be no.1 on the UK charts.
