On March 28, 2023, Ryuichi Sakamoto died aged 71. He was musician (piano, keyboards, synthesizers), singer, composer, record producer and artist, who first came to prominence as member of Yellow Magic Orchestra, but was best known for his eclectic solo career, straddled experimentalism, electronic, pop and movie music. His work influenced a number of various electronic music genres. He collaborated with big number of musicians, including David Sylvian, David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Thomas Dolby, Adrian Belew, Robin Scott, Kiyoshiro Imawano, Arto Lindsay, Youssou N’Dor, Jill Jones, Robert Wyatt, Brian Wilson and Robbie Robertson. Sakamoto was an “Oscar” winner for “Best Original Score”, for the soundtrack of Bernardo Bertolucci’s movie “The Last Emperor”. As leader, he released 23 albums.

Johann Johannsson
On February 9, 2018, Jóhann Jóhannsson died aged 48. He was composer who was composing music for theatre, dance, TV and movies. Some of his movie works include original scores for “Personal Effects” by David Hollander, “For Ellen” by So Yong Kim, “McCanick” by John C. Waller, “Prisoners” by Denis Villeneuve, Sicario by Denis Villeneuve, “Arrival” by Denis Villeneuve, “The Mercy” by James Marsh and “Mary Magdalene” by Garth Davis. For the score for James Marsh’s “The Theory of Everything”, Jóhannsson won a “Golden Globe” for “Best Original Score”. In the period 2002 – 2016, he released nine solo albums.
Prince And The Revolution: Purple Rain
On June 25, 1984, “Warner Bros” label released “Purple Rain”, the sixth Prince studio album, and the first with his band The Revolution. It was the soundtrack of the 1984 movie with the same title. The album was recorded August 1983 – March 1984, at “First Avenue” in Minneapolis, “The Warehouse” in St. Louis Park,”Record Plant’ in Los Angeles, “Sunset Sound” in Hollywood, and was produced by Prince, Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Marr Fink, Brown Mark and Bobby Z. “Rolling Stone” magazine ranked “Purple Rain” at number 70 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”; in 1993 “Time” magazine ranked the album at number 15 on its list of “Greatest Albums of All Time”. “Purple Rain” was certified 13 x Platinum in the US by the “RIIA”. In 1985, the album won two “Grammy Awards” for “Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or TV Special” and “Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group”.In 1985, ”Purple Rain” won an “Oscar” for “Best Original Song Score”.
