On October 10, 1969, “Island” label released “In the Court of the Crimson King” the debut King Crimson album. It was recorded July – August 1969, at the “Wessex Sound Studios”, in London, and was produced by Robert Fripp, Michael Giles, Greg Lake, Peter Sinfield, and Ian McDonald. “In the Court of the Crimson King” is regarded to be one of the most important albums not only of the progressive rock but of rock music in general. In the 2007 book “Rocking the Classics”, critic and musicologist Edward Macan notes that “In the Court of the Crimson King ” may be the most influential progressive rock album ever released”.
